Healthcare Management Skills

Healthcare in transition

Our healthcare system is in a state of fundamental upheaval and is undergoing a unique development. Increasing medical and medical-technical possibilities are faced with an increasing shortage of funds and an aging population. The old state-administered system is gradually being deregulated and those involved are exposed to the competitive pressure of the markets. In this situation, professional management skills are required at all decision-making levels. For people who work in the healthcare sector, it is about recognizing the economic implications of their own actions. In a next step, innovative solutions can be developed and implemented. Business, health economics and legal knowledge is therefore becoming more and more important, sometimes essential for survival.

Solid economic knowledge base - in line with the needs of practice

The part-time continuing education course "Master of Business Administration (MBA) Health Care Management" addresses those people who can already foresee the intensification of competition and want to build up targeted competitive advantages. This advanced training will provide you with a solid economic foundation. For this we need one thing above all: your willingness to cooperate! We don't offer you any panaceas, we don't supply ready-made solutions as templates, we don't exhaust ourselves with buzzwords related to health policy. A solid economics education that harmonises academic level with the needs of practice should enable you to tailor the right solution for your very individual needs and problems and to form your own, economically sound opinion on health policy issues.

Specialized and clearly accentuated educational offer

Our range of courses is not aimed at providing a mere overview of the structures of the healthcare system, nor does it intend to provide an economic quick run-through for as many professional groups as possible. Through your everyday work, you are already familiar with the structures and institutions and bring basic and background knowledge that should not be underestimated. By consistently focusing on the needs of the healthcare system, doctors in private practice and clinics, physicians from associations and chambers, and those responsible from other areas of the medical industry will benefit greatly from this specialized and clearly accentuated educational offer. Special in-depth modules for physicians, pharmacists and non-physicians in the fourth semester enable them to work on individual professional problems. The design of the course ensures the level and depth that you would expect from such training and leaves time for regular performance reviews.

History and organization of the MBA course

As early as the mid-1990s, there were signs of an increasing intensification of competition between service providers in all sectors of the German health care system. This made it necessary for both the doctor in private practice and the other providers in the healthcare sector to take greater account of economic aspects in all business processes. In short - there was a considerable need for well-founded management know-how.

Recognizing this need early on is the merit of Prof. Dr. dr hc Peter Oberender (†), who together with his former employees Prof. Dr. Frank Daumann, Dr. Ansgar Hebborn and Prof. Dr. Stefan Okurch developed the first further training course for business administration in medical practice in the German-speaking area. In order to be able to offer this course successfully, Oberender and his employees founded the FOR-MED company for business administration in medical practice mbH in 1997. FOR-MED GmbH has been running the "Business Administration for Medical Practice" course with great success since 1997.

The Campus Academy was founded in 2003 as an organizational unit of the University of Bayreuth to carry out practice-oriented further education at university level. In addition to individual offers for companies and a large number of courses and seminars for working people, the Campus Academy is also involved in educational research and in the implementation of university-wide events.

In 2007, FOR-MED GmbH and the campus academy of the University of Bayreuth bundled their skills to jointly offer the part-time MBA course "Health Care Management". As the first MBA program in the field of "Health Care" in the German-speaking world, the program is characterized by its constantly increasing number of students. A total of more than 500 participants have already successfully completed the MBA program.
